Hiking the Volcano

A year and a half ago my parents took the kids overnight while we spent a night in St. George. One of the things we did during that time was hike a dormant volcano that we had attempted to hike but did not accomplish while I was very pregnant with Veronica.
Since then we wanted to take the kids there and we finally did it yesterday!
We were in St. George for Tyler's football game and we had time and perfect weather so we decided to do it. The kids did great. Brenna and Braelynn made it all the way up and around without being carried and probably could have made it most of the rest of the way back but on the way down it was very slow moving and we wanted to get back so we gave them piggy back rides part of the way down.
When Joe and I had gone by ourselves I wanted to hike down into it but Joe didn't want to and I didn't want to go by myself but this time Tyler agreed to go down into it with me. The only thing I could think about the whole hike down in was how my brother saw a rattlesnake when he went down there one time, so it wasn't that much fun!

Joe and I had traded off helping Brenna and Braelynn. When I was helping Brenna, I would encourage her and tell her she was doing great. Then when she went back with Joe I heard her say "Come on, Daddy, you are doing a good job, you can make it!"

Tyler's own little football cheering section!

Sunshine, Burnout and Not Guilty

Nothing really important to blog about but a few fun stories.
First of all, the kids are in the middle of a five-day weekend. They are off Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. That makes us all excited! Add in the fact that we have had perfect weather and Joe is off of work for three of those days and decided not to go hunting this weekend.
He has been hunting every day he has been off of work except for Sundays since the first of October (with the exception of when we were in Salt Lake), so we all really needed some family time.
I am happy to report that we have had a great time, we have worked hard, relaxed, and had fun.

Burnout:
You know when you are in an exercise class and the instructor says "OK, lets burn out our biceps" or whatever you are working, so you do a few more reps and call it good? Well, Friday morning I go to my hour long spinning class (where you ride a stationary bike set to music) and have a great workout. No big deal. When I get home we decide to borrow our friends' bikes and bike trailer and go for a bike ride/picnic up the trail to canyon park and then up the rest of the way up to the waterfall. I go to the spinning class once or twice a week with no problems so I figure that even though it would have been only two hours between my spinning class and the bike ride it would be okay. No big deal, right? Wrong! It is up hill and I am towing the bike trailer with Brenna and Braelynn and our picnic in it. By the time we got done my legs were definately on burnout!
On a totally unrelated note, I ran my 3.3 mile route the next day route in my best time yet...38 minutes. Not race winning by any means, but exciting for me!

Not Guilty:
On Wednesday I had a presidency meeting and Joe worked the night before and after so he would be sleeping and unable to watch the twins. Instead of finding someone to watch Brenna and Braelynn, the ladies in my presidency are good to just come here so I decided to rent a Dora movie from Redbox to keep them entertained during my meeting. I had forgotten to get a movie the day before and was trying to hurry and get the other kids off to the bus in order to run to Redbox before 9:00 when the meeting started.
Joe, being the nice husband he is, offered to go there for me before he went to sleep. He was taking a long time and I was started to get worried. Where was he?
He was being frisked and having his car searched.
Apparently someone driving a car with the same make and model as his had skipped gas in Parowan that morning.
A cop pulled him over, asked if he had any weapons, Joe gave him his pocket knife and then he proceeded to frisk him and searched his car. He let Joe back in his car and then went back to his car for a few minutes. All this without telling him what was going on. After a few minutes he came and told Joe about the person skipping gas. Joe pointed out that he had less than 1/4 of a tank left and the cop agreed that it indeed wasn't him that skipped the gas.
To make the story even better the Police Officer forgot to give him his pocket knife back, so when Joe got home, we had to call dispatch and the officer had to come to our house to give it to him!

Fun in SLC

This last weekend we went to Salt Lake City to be with my sister and brother-in-law Jeanette and Jeff while they blessed their twin daughters, Emmalyn and Brooklyn.

We had a great time visiting with family. Saturday we spent some time at Wheeler farm feeding ducks, petting animals, going for a tractor ride, going through a little corn maze and picking pumpkins.

Can you believe that animal they are petting is a pig?!?

That evening wonderful my sister-in-law threw a party! Hurray for Matti's parties! She had food, food, food and games! Good old fashioned apple bobbing and doughnuts on a string!

Of course, the adults wanted a doughnut too...

Joe and Tyler weren't there for the festivities because Tyler had a football game but joined us late Saturday night.
Brenna and Braelynn having their meltdown when it was time to go home. They obviously had a great time, too.

Missing

It is missing and I can't find it. I usually love this time of year, the colors, the cool air, the excitement of a new season, the smells, all of it. But not this year.

I am not ready to give up my fresh tomatoes, chives, corn, zucchini, and especially the cucumbers. Or the shorts, the flip-flops, the park, the walks, the outside time. The sunshine.

I am sad that I am not excited about fall and sad that I am sad about that. That combined with other miscellaneous struggles have left me a bit...grumpy. My poor patient husband.

I have tried everything, taking in all the changes, making soups for dinner, decorating and nothing has worked.

Please, if you know of a cure or happen to find it, I need it back!
