Neglect and Sports

This is what happens when Mom gets involved in preparing a lesson (The hardest, scariest, most intimidating lesson she has EVER done, by the way. You can pray for me, if you like.) and lets Brenna and Braelynn nap for way to long.
Almost two hours past bedtime, they were still up. At least they were in bed and they quietly found a book and were quietly reading it together!

And for those who wanted to know: Tyler took 4th in state wrestling on Saturday! Great job, dude! In his last match to wrestle for 3rd or 4th place, he was wrestling his friend, Dallin. The one he was finally able to beat this year and did it quite a few times. Tyler was ahead by 1 point most of the match and then in the last 5 seconds Dallin got a takedown and won by 1 point. Talk about a tense match!
I did not get any pictures. By the time it started (four hours late!!!) I was so ready to be done I didn't even get my camera out.
On Monday morning, he comes up to me and says "Mom, I can't wait for football to start!" I told him that we was not allowed to think about football until at least July. Do you think it worked? No! (:

Easter Adventures

Do you have a place that whenever you go there it feels like home even though you have never lived there? I do, and I was able to go there over Easter Break.
We went to Denver, Colorado to visit some of Joe's grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. It was wonderful to be there with the relatives whom we love dearly.
In addition to visiting and shopping, we:
had an Easter Party complete with Easter dinner (a day early since we had to travel home on Sunday), an egg hunt, and coloring eggs






played rock band,

and tie dyed shirts.




The kids with Great-Grandma and Grandpa Waken

Great-Grandma and Grandpa Haley live in Grand Junction, so we stop and see them on the way to and from. We love to see them and visit together.

We had a little adventure on the way to Denver. We woke up Thursday morning to about 12 inches of snow on the ground in Cedar City so after praying about it, we decided to wait a few hours until it got light outside before we left. The roads were snow covered and icy all the way past Salina Canyon for about 150 miles adding an extra hour to the first part of our trip. After our stop in Grand Junction, we checked the roads over Eisenhower and Vail pass but they were dry so went on. Part of the road was closed because of a 20-30 car accident that had happened earlier during the day and was expected to be opened by the time we got there. It opened for about 5 minutes when were were 10 miles to where the road was closed and then it was closed again to finish clearing off the accidents. After sitting there for 2 1/2 hours it started snowing hard and sticking to the roads, making them really slick. It was late and getting dark when we got word that they would be closed into the night and maybe not opened until the morning. We finally were able to get off the freeway and started searching for a hotel. We eventually found one about 20 miles back the way we had just came. We made our way back down the mountain in the snowstorm and got one of the last hotel rooms available. For dinner, I found a grocery store just around the block from our hotel, so Veronica and I went and got us stuff for a picnic dinner in our hotel room. The menu: sandwiches, apples, milk, and soup that we heated up with the hotel mugs in the microwave with ice cream sandwiches for dessert. The next morning after the road opened we headed on into Denver in once again snowy, icy roads over the pass making for yet again a long, tense drive.
I think I jinxed us. Just the week before I was telling my mom that all the times we have been to Denver and back we had never had any problems going over those roads. Next time I will just keep my mouth shut!
The kids did great, though, and tried hard to be patient. The drive home that for me usually seems long because we are tired and ready to be home seemed to go by really fast this time!
