Wow....long time no blog. I really don't have anything to blog about but wanted to write a few things down because, well, just because!
*I have been thinking about the things parents do for their kids and why we do them. Samantha wanted to play soccer again this year so I signed her up and also Brenna and Braelynn. Just for fun. I thought they would enjoy it. I started to seriously rethink that decision after a few really busy weeks. Was it more for me than for them? Chances are that they will never be star soccer players so whey do it now when they are 4 or 5? Then came the practices, and the games and just a little more chaos. I have decided that it really is good for them. They love it and are excited for it. It builds self esteem and helps them learn to be out and active and with other people. I am not saying other parents should do the same thing or that it is wrong to not do that. That is just what is best for us. Within reason. There are tons and tons of things they would love to do that I would love for them to do. Soccer just fits into our budget better than dance or gymnastics, etc.
*Samantha is rejoicing that the size of pants she has been wearing for the last two years are too short for her. The bad part is that the next size up are too big around the waist even if they are slim. Good thing its almost summer and I don't have to worry about pants for a few months!
*Brenna and Braelynn have known about primary colors for a long time. They fully understand that there are three main colors and those colors make all the other colors. One day they were talking about it again and Braelynn says "So the other colors are Sacrament colors?" I thought it was funny and it reminded me of when I was a kid and was confused about fast and slow Sundays.
*I have been doing some more sewing in the last little while, more than I have in a really long time. Some of it for fun, some for fun but on a deadline, and some I had to do on a deadline. I knew Brenna and Braelynn were watching a little
more TV than they usually do but thought no one else noticed until one day when they wanted to watch a show and I wouldn't let them and Brenna says "Mom, don't you have any sewing you need to do or something?" Little stinker!
*I have always known how lucky I was in the fact that Veronica is self-driven to succeed, but I didn't realize exactly how much until recently. If she has a project for school, she figures out what she wants to do, plans it, and accomplishes it. I help where needed but it is done with very little or no drama. Tyler had a science project due last week along with another project. Wow. Don't you hate it when you see your bad traits come out in your children? I get anxiety over doing things that are new or uncomfortable. A big project or a talk in church can cause me grief. The same with him. I didn't realize this until about a year ago when I was preparing for a big talk in Sacrament Meeting and was having a hard time and Tyler was preparing one for primary. I saw in his eyes and actions the same feelings I had inside. That came out last week when we went through the science project. I am glad that is over.
*As a general rule, I think that parents should not put their kids into categories. ie: the smart one, the funny one, etc. Especially when we had twins, I tried to make sure that didn't happen.
I really wanted to remember this one thing, though, just because I don't want them to outgrow it and then forget it. I have started noticing this winter that they can get sick with the same virus and Brenna will just get grumpy and move along. Over the summer she lost a fingernail and got stitches twice without much of a compliant. Braelynn, on the other hand--"I can't breath", "It hurts....ahhhh"
Today they got their kindergarten shots. All their preschool friends have had theirs done already so they were very excited for it. Peer pressure can be a wonderful thing...sometimes!
Brenna went first and before she could even get the shot, Braelynn was crying, saying that she didn't want Brenna to get the shot and clinging to my leg. Brenna is lying on the table holding my hands being calm. She let out a little cry with one shot (they got four) and that was it. Braelynn was still crying and a little hysterical when it was her time and I had to fight to hold her down until she got the first shot and then she was calm the rest of the time when she realized it didn't hurt that bad.
All afternoon and evening it has been the same thing. Braelynn being a little overly dramatic and Brenna just hanging tough.
