Just a funny story about my grandpa and hummus.

Veronica was doing a school project about a country (don't remember which country) and needed to make something that the peole in that country eat for the class to sample. I had tried hummus before and liked it and it seemed easier to make than some of the other recipes we found for other types of food from that country, so we decided to try it.

The day of her presentation I was to take the hummus up to the school in time for the presentation. My grandpa showed up to my house about 10 minutes before I had to leave so as we were talking I mentioned I had to take something up to the school for Veronica and mentioned it was hummus and asked if he would like to try some. His response was "Hummus, why would I want to try hummus!?" I thought his answer was a little odd, both because he is usually more willing to try new things and how adamant he was that he did not want to try it.

As I was adding the finishing touches and getting everything ready to take up to the school, he asked me to explain what this was again and what was in it. I explained that it was made from garbanzo beans and that you eat it as a dip. He says "Oh, you say it Hummus?! I had read about people eating humus and could never figure out why they would want to eat humus. You know what humus is, right? It's a layer of dirt, I couldn't figure out why anyone would want to eat dirt!" He tried it and, of course, liked it. He even liked it so much he got another spoonful. Now every time I make hummus I laugh a little and think of my grandpa.

A few of our Christmas traditions, some new and some old:

Decorating gingerbread houses. We used to do this with friends to share the cost of all the candy and have a good variety but hadn't done it for years. The kids always ask but we just never got around to doing it. We finally did it this year and I think I will make sure to do it every year. It was very fun and great family time. I loved to see the kids create different things and have fun together.
































We draw secret service names then get that person a present and do service for that person. Those presents we get to open on Christmas eve. This year was the best ever. We drew names a little early (at Thanksgiving) so we could have a little more time. Brenna, Braelynn and I decided to go homemade this year for our secret person. Brenna was so excited to give Dad her present she made. That was my favorite part of opening presents, seeing how excited she was to give that to him. Gave the phrase "It's better to give than receive" new meaning. The shirt says "Don't hate me because I'm...BEAUTIFUL. Veronica's was a necklace holder and Sam's was a dry erase board made out of an old picture frame.




I love attending church on Christmas. Best place to be.






















We stayed home and had Christmas dinner by ourselves. We had everyone choose what dish they wanted to make for the meal. It's interesting to see what they wanted to make and carry it out.

New Years Eve consisted of spending the evening with friends, going to bed at 1:00, waking up at 5:15 for Joe to go to work and me to finish up some primary things then getting ready for 9:00 church. After that? 2 hour family nap time!
